Indian Passport renewal process and documents

 Hi all,

Here is the updated process for renewing a passport for an adult and a child on the same day and time.

Appointment

• Visit the India Passport Seva website
• Click on "Register" if you don't have an account.
• Click on "Login" if you already have an account.
• After successful login, navigate to "Services".
• 
• Click on "Fresh Passport/Re-Issue of Passport"
• Enter your existing passport number to pre-fill the data.
• If it's a fresh passport or you want to manually enter the details, click on the "Skip for Now" link.
• Choose the Passport Office
• You should see the form below 
• 
• In the case of "Re-issue of Passport", you will have options to change/modify details in existing passport.
• 
• Check the appropriate items
• When you check the "Change in Existing Personal Particulars", you will have options to update the following details.
• 
• After selecting the "Type of Application" and "Type of Passport Booklet"
• Click on "Save and Next".
• Post that you will be navigated tothe  next section as mentioned in the flow below.
• 
• Fill in the relevant details and submit the form.
• After submitting the form, you will be able to upload the relevant documents that are available in the DigiLocker.
• Select the center and date that you want to visit.
• Note: It did not help me to smooth the process even after uploading the documents.

Visiting Center

• Take all hard copies, Originals, and Xerox (2 sets)
• Application form
• Aadhaar Card (Full length)
• Existing passport (Front 2 and back 2 Pages) Xerox (no print out with 100% page fill)
• In case of a spouse's addition 
• Marriage certificate original
• For the kid application
• Fill in "Annexure D"
• Date of Birth Certificate
• Counters
• A Counter: Verification of the documents, scanning the documents, and taking a photo.
• B Counter: Cross verification of the A counter form and documents.
• C Counter: Originals will be verified.

Police Verification (Will be indicated in the status of the application after the center visit)

• In a couple of days, the police will call and make sure you are available upon the visit at the address submitted in the passport application.
• Submitted the application form that has been finalized during the center visit.
• Original documents (Old passport(s) and address proof).
• Details of the neighbour's & physical presence with a signature.
• Applicant's signature and thumb along with a passport-size photo that will be stuck to the police filled application.

Procedure

• Add the following config in your app/build.gradle

Release AppBundle / APK

• Run the following command to generate appbundle

Connect to public hosted Ubuntu server MySQL Docker Image from local MySQL Workbench

Hi folks,

Today I am going to explain the procedure to test the public cloud hosted MySQL docker in Ubuntu Server to your local MySQL WorkBench.

We configured a Ubuntu Server on public cloud and installed docker.
Ping the public IP address to make sure, it is reachable to your pc/laptop.

Configure System

Install MySQL Docker Image

# docker pull mysql/mysql-server:latest

Check the images

#docker images

You should be able to view the downloaded mysql server image

Start the MySQL Server

# docker run --name=mysql1 -p 33061:3306 -d mysql/mysql-server
-d : Run in daemon mode
-p host_port:container_port
--name: container name

The mapped public ubuntu server port is 33061, which is mapped to the mysql server port 3306.

Check the containers

# docker ps

You should be able to view your mysql docker containers with container id and ports information

Get the MySQL root user password

MySQL generates a one-time password for docker container and writes to the log.

• To view the log, execute the following command

# docker logs mysql1

• To get the generate one-time password, filter the log with keyworkd "GENERATED"

# docker logs mysql1 2>&1 | grep GENERATED

• You should be able to get the line like below

GENERATED ROOT PASSWORD: Axegh3kAJyDLaRuBemecis&EShOs

• Copy the one-time password. In the next step, we will use this to login.

Reset MySQL root user password

• Connect to MySQL server

# docker exec -it mysql1 -uroot -p

• Paste the generated root password
• Change the password

mysql> ALTER USER 'root'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'yourpwd';
mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

• Though you have the root user credentials, you won't be able to connect.

Root cause: root user belongs to localhost, not for the public host usage
Solution: create another user with all privileges

mysql> CREATE USER 'username'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'youpwd';
mysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES on *.* TO USER 'username'@'%' WITH GRANT OPTION;
mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

• Exit the mysql

mysql> exit;

• Restart the docker

# docker restart mysql1

Connect from MySQL Workbench

1. Open MySQL Workbench
2. Click on add new connection icon
3. Enter the "Connection name"
4. Enter host name "public IP address" or "URL"
5. Enter username as "dev" (Above created user)
6. Click on Password "Store in vault" button and enter the "dev" user password
7. Click on "Test Connection" button
8. You should be able to view the "Successfully made the SQL Connection" pop-up

Remote desktop connection to Azure AD joined computer device

Hi Folks,

I have an issue of remotely connecting one of the Azure AD joined computer.

Fix is explained below

1. Open "Remote Settings" from "System".
2. You should be able to view "Remote" tab from "System Properties".
3. Uncheck "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (recommended)" from Remote Desktop section.
4. Open regedit.exe.
5. Navigate to "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp".
6. Update "SecurityLayer" key to "0" (Zero) from default 2 (Two).
7. Reboot your system.
8. While taking remote desktop, user "AzureAD\"your work email id" as your username.
9. You should be able to connect your AzureAD joined system remotely from now.

node server address in use error resolution for Windows and Linux machines

Hi friends,

Today, I have come across a situation, where my node server existed unproperly and address has been blocked. Because of which, I am unable to run the node server on the same port.

System configuration

Running my node server on port 3000.

Resolution

Windows Machine

We will first try to find whether the port has been still in listening mode.
> netstat -ano | find "LISTENING" | find "3000"
When the above command returns result then take the last number (Process ID)
We will kill the process with the following command.
> taskkill /f /pid

Linux Machine

> netstat -nlp | grep :3000
> kill -9

Now, you will be able to run the node server on the same port which has been blocked.

Android and Java latest integration changes for AVDManager and SDKManager non-working issues

Hi all,

If you haven't used your Android skills in recent times with latest Java then, you might come across a situation where the SDK Manager and AVD Manager are not working.

Issue

SDK Manager and AVD Manager are not working.

Environment

Java 9 with Android SDK 23

Note

Though, I am able to perform development using Android Studio but when it come to update the SDK build tools and others, I was not able to update with SDK Manager.

Solution

1. Now, Android SDK Manager have moved to sdk/tools/bin with filename sdkmanager.bat
2. Edit the sdkmanager.bat file with any text editor
3. Go to "@rem Execute sdkmanager" command
4. Update the command with options: -XX:+IgnoreUnrecognizedVMOptions --add-modules java.se.ee 
5. It should look like below after you add the arguments
• @rem Execute sdkmanager
  "%JAVA_EXE%" %DEFAULT_JVM_OPTS% -XX:+IgnoreUnrecognizedVMOptions --add-modules java.se.ee %JAVA_OPTS% %SDKMANAGER_OPTS%  -classpath "%CLASSPATH%" com.android.sdklib.tool.sdkmanager.SdkManagerCli %CMD_LINE_ARGS%
6. If you run android-sdk/tools/bin/sdkmanager.bat, it should be able to run

Note

There is nothing like platform-tools folder now in Android SDK.

So, make sure that you have specified ANDROID_HOME/SDK in your environment variables with your system/pc Android SDK folder

In PATH environment variable, you can specify %ANDROID_HOME%/tools/bin

Windows Oracle startup issue

When your Oracle is unable to connect, do the following procedure

Open command prompt
Connect as sysdba
cmd> sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
sql> startup
Once the command executed successfully, then you should be able to login to Oracle

Tomcat issue "windows could not start apache tomcat on local computer" after java update issue with resolution

Today I have faced an issue with Tomcat service starting. I would like to share with you the resolution as well. Please find the details below.

Root cause

Updated java version

Resolution

• Navigate to you apache installed folder
• Go bin folder
• Double click on "Tomcat(X)w.exe" where X the version of tomcat.
• In my case it is "Tomcat8w.exe" because the version is 8
• 
• Select "Use Default". So that, it uses the JAVA_HOME version by default.
• Click on OK
• Start the Tomcat service and enjoy deploying

Asus Zenfone 5 Clear Cache to speed up your phone

Hi all,

Today I will describe about clearing cache in Asus Zenfone 5 to speed up/boost your phone performance.

Pre-requisite:

• Take backup on your internal storage (Ex: Pics, docs, your important info)

• Make sure that, you have enough battery level or keep the phone in charging mode

Procedure:

1. Switch off your phone
2. Wait for 15 seconds
3. Press the power button and volume up button simultaneously until Asus logo appears on your mobile screen
4. 
5. By default, it will show "Normal Boot"
6. 
7. By pressing volume up/down button, you will be able to see the following options
8. Normal Boot, Power Off, Recovery Mode, Restart Bootloader
9. Select "Recovery Mode"
10. 
11. Press power button
12. Phone will automatically reboots
13. You will be able to see "No Command" on screen
14. 
15. Press and hold power button and volume up button simultaneously for 2 seconds and leave it
16. Now, you will be able to a screen with following options
17. reboot system now, apply update from adb, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, reboot to bootloader, power down, view recovery logs
18. Navigate by clicking volume down button to highlight "wipe cache partition"
19. 
20. Select using power button
21. You will be able to see fomatting cache message
22. 
23. Wait till the format completes
24. Once, it shows the format complete, select "Reboot system now" option

Nexus 7 Files accessing (storage drive) issue fix after upgrading to Marshmallow

Hi friends,

Today when I connected my Nexus 7 tab, I was unable to see the drive and folder structure. But in the file explorer it is able to detect the Nexus 7 by showing the icon. When you double click to view the files, there is nothing.

1. After googling, the following solutions worked for me.
2. Go to device management
3. Right click Android ADB Interface and do uninstall
4. After uninstalling the drivers, change the USB type in Nexus to PTP and immediately change to MTP
5. Unplug and plug the Nexus to your PC
6. Now the system will re-install the driver

Hope, this post will be useful when OS upgraded and unable to access file system of device

Android 6.0.1 Upgrade fix

After installing the driver, device might be recognized but we need to change the "Use USB for options" from any one of the following options

Notification Panel

1. Select the "USB for file transfer - Touch for more options"
2. You will be prompted to choose any one of the following
• Charging
• File transfers
• Photo transfers
• MIDI
3. Select File transfers to see the "Internal Storage"

Developer Options

1. Go to "Settings->Developer Options"
2. Go to "Select USB Configuration" setting
3. Choose "MTP (Media Transfer Protocol)" for transferring the files

Now you should be able to see the file storage in explorer

Android insufficient permissions for device

Hi Friends,

I was having an issue when connected my friend's Micromax Doodle to my Ubuntu with the following error
"insufficient permissions for device"

Resolution

1. Open Terminal
2. Kill the server by typing the following command
• $ adb kill-server
3. Now, start the server
• $ adb start-server
4. On your device, a pop-up might come asking for granting the permission
5. Click on "Yes" for approving the access
6. Now, check your device status with the following command
• adb devices
7. With the above command, you should be able to see devive IMEI and device name

OpenVPN Server Windows 7 Installation

Objective

Install OpenVPN Server on Windows 7 machine.
I have followed the tutorial from OpenVPN community. https://community.openvpn.net/openvpn/wiki/Easy_Windows_Guide

Pre-requisites

Disable the Windows Firewall (OR) Enable an Inbound Rule for the port 1194 ^[2]

Download and Installation

• Download OpenVPN Server. http://openvpn.net/release/ (Get the latest Version executable based on time)
• Install the downloaded .exe by running with Administrator privileges
• Specify the path to a folder which doesn’t have spaces on path.

  • Example:-

    • C:\OpenVPN [Use] [I am installing in this directory and throughout this post, I will be referring this as default OpenVPN installed directory]
    • C:\Program Files (x86) [Don’t use]
• Navigate to OpenVPN installed directory
• Go to config folder
• Create a file with name server.ovpn
• Paste the content as specified below
• Go to Network Connections in Windows 7 [Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections]
• Rename TAP-Win32 Adapter to “MyTap” as described in server.ovpn [Names should match in both server.ovpn and Adapter name]

   1: port 1194 #change to any port you see fit. The client needs to use the same port




   2: proto udp #switch to tcp if you wish to use a tcp connection, the client needs to use the same protocol. udp gives better performance




   3: dev tun




   4: dev-node MyTap #name of your TAP interface.




   5: server 10.8.0.0 255.255.255.0 #This may need modification as dictated by Internet Connection Settings. This is the default for ICS on Windows 7.




   6:

Certificates and Keys Creation

Initial Configuration

• Open command prompt with Administrator privileges


• Navigate to OpenVPN directory


• cd C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa\


• run init-config.bat
• C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa> init-config


• Open vars.bat


• C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa> notepad vars.bat


• Change the HOME variable to your path
• HOME=C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa


• Change country, province, City, Org, email


• You can add KEY_NAME=your-name and KEY_OU=VPNer


• Run the vars.bat file
• C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa> vars


• Run the clean-all.bat file
• C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa> clean-all

Creating Certificates and Keys

Your Own Certificate Authority Generation

• Open command prompt with Administrator privileges


• Navigate to OpenVPN directory


• cd C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa\


• run build-ca.bat


• C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa> build-ca


• Accept the defaults and give Common Name as your-company CA


• Ex:- OpenVPN-CA

Server Certificate and Key Generation

• Open command prompt with Administrator privileges


• Navigate to OpenVPN directory


• cd C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa\


• run build-key-server.bat file


• C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa> build-key-server server


• Enter common name as “server” since your command line input parameter is “server”


• Sign Certificate: accept with ‘y’


• Commit: accept with ‘y’

Client Certificate and Key Generation

• Open command prompt with Administrator privileges


• Navigate to OpenVPN directory


• cd C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa\


• run build-key.bat file


• C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa> build-key client-name


• Ex:- build-key my-laptop


• Enter common name as “my-laptop” since your command line input parameter is “my-laptop”

 Key Exchange Certificate(Diffie-Hellman)

• Open command prompt with Administrator privileges


• Navigate to OpenVPN directory


• cd C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa\


• run build-dh.bat file


• C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa> build-dh

Send Server Certificates and Keys to Client

Send the following files to client

1. ca.crt


2. client-name.crt


3. client-name.key

All these files will be stored in C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa\keys

Common Errors and Resolution

• openvpn unable to write 'random state'
• Change the HOME variable path to absolute path in vars.bat file


• Ex: HOME=C:\OpenVPN\easy-rsa


• openvpn server directive network/netmask combination is invalid
• Give IP address as 10.8.0.0 in server.ovpn


• TapAdapter not found


• Go to Network Connections in Windows 7 [Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections]
• Rename TAP-Win32 Adapter to “MyTap” as described in server.ovpn [Names should match in both server.ovpn and Adapter name]

Run OpenVPN GUI

• Start->All Programs->OpenVPN->OpenVPN GUI


• It will come to status bar as notification icon [Default: bottom]


• Rightclick on OpenVPN GUI and click on “Connect”


• It should display proper log, if any error please search in Google and openvpn forums
