Tomcat issue "windows could not start apache tomcat on local computer" after java update issue with resolution

Hi friends,

Today I have faced an issue with Tomcat service starting. I would like to share with you the resolution as well. Please find the details below.

Root cause

Updated java version

Resolution

  • Navigate to you apache installed folder
  • Go bin folder
  • Double click on "Tomcat(X)w.exe" where X the version of tomcat.
  • In my case it is "Tomcat8w.exe" because the version is 8
  • Select "Use Default". So that, it uses the JAVA_HOME version by default.

Windows 8.1 Pro Upgrade Keyboard Layout, Keys Mismatch Problem Resolution

Hi all,

I have upgraded my sister’s laptop from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1

I know that, it takes lot of time to download and install. After the whole night download and installation is completed.

But she has come up with an issue saying that, keyboard keys are not displaying correct values.

Problem

Keyboard Layout Adjustment

Resolution

  • I have understood that it’s a layout problem.
  • Default layout is English (UK). I have changed that to English (India).
  • And downloaded the English (US) language pack also.
  • For testing your keyboard layout in the live view, you can open “On-Screen Keyboard”
  • When you change the layout, the “On-Screen Keyboard” layout gets changed automatically.
  • By this way, we can see our keyboard live layout.

I hope someone who think that, it’s a problem can resolve the issue using the above procedure.

For more queries and comments, please send mail to psrdotcom@gmail.com

Unable to Share folders in Ubuntu problem got resolved (Samba)

Hi friends,

I was not able to share my folders within network sometime back.

After searching and modifying configuration file my problem got resolved.

Problem:

Unable to share Ubuntu folders

Message:

net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: cannot share path /opt/foldingathome as we are restricted to only sharing directories we own.
Ask the administrator to add the line "usershare owner only = False"
to the [global] section of the smb.conf to allow this.

Resolution:

  1. Type the following in console
    • $ sudo vi /etc/samba/smb.conf
  2. Go to [global] section
  3. Add the following line
    • usershare owner only = False
  4. Save and exit from vi
  5. Restart Samba service
    • sudo service samba restart
Now, you can happily share your folders over network

Micro SD Card, Unable to Format, Write Protected

Hi friends,

One more issue with some precaution. My friend formatted his micro-sd card and trying to copy the files from computer to sd card using card reader. The files aren't copying into the sd card. We tried to format the drive and it was showing an error in windows like "Windows was unable to format the drive".

We tried to format the drive on Linux, Mac also. Tried to use "dd" command to write random data in it. It was automatically disconnecting from PC/Mac. i.e. The drive is not accessible after sometime.

Then we have come to one conclusion that "Never, Ever format your sd card from the phone". It will not be accessible by the PC/Mac.

We tried to use the same SD Card in Samsung mobile also. It was detected and formatted from the Samsung phone too. It was formatted successfully. But when we were trying to copy some files to the sd card, It says "Drive location is accessible".

Lesson: "Don't format your micro-sd card from phone"

If anyone knows, how to solve this problem, please let me know.

Java Native Interface (JNI) in Netbeans with C/C++ and Java Hello World Sample Source Code

Hi all,

Today I configured the Netbeans IDE to work with Java Native Interface (JNI).

Pre-Requisites:
  1. Java Development Kit (JDK)
  2. Cygwin (or) MinGW & MSYS
  3. NetBeans IDE with Java and C/C++ Bundle

Installation:
  • Install JDK
  • Install Cygwin (or) MinGW&MSYS
  • Note: While installing please choose the destination directory name without spaces
  • I have installed NetBeans IDE All Version, because I thought, I will need all the technologies. That is different approach.

Configuration:
  • Set the environment variables like JAVA_HOME and PATH with Java Installation Directory and JDK bin, Cygwin/MinGW&MSYS bin directories respectively
  • Cygwin/MinGW integration with NetBeans
  • Configure the C/C++ with Tools MinGW bin directory, which automatically fills the corresponding compilers

Source Code:

  • Create a sample java application with the following detail

package javaapp1.JavaApp1;

public class JavaApp1
{
public static void main(String [] args)
{
  new JavaApp1.nativePrint();
}

private native void nativePrint();
}

  • Clean and Build the java project
  • In Command Prompt, Navigate to Netbeans Project Directory
    • cmd> cd Netbeans/ProjectDir
  • Create the Java header file
    • cmd> javah -o JavaApp1.h -classpath JavaApp1\build\classes javaapp1.JavaApp1

  • Create a C/C++ Dynamic Library Project in Netbeans (In this example, it is CppDll1)
  • Change some of the project properties
  • Make sure that, you have downloaded and configured the proper Cygwin/MinGW with exact Architecture 32bit/64bit
  •  Make sure that you are using proper gcc for 32bit/64bit dll creation
  • Linker must be of same architecture, 32bit/64bit

  • Include the Java header file, which we have created in Java Project.
    • Right click on the "Source Files"-> Select "Add an Existing Item"
    • Select the created header file from Project Home Directory
    • (OR)
    • Manually copy the created header file from Project home directory to CppDll directory
  • Create a C Source file in "Source Files" in CppDll1 project
 #include "JavaApp1.h"

JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_javaapp1_JavaApp1_nativePrint(JNIEnv *env, jobject obj)
{
    printf("\nHello World from C\n");
}
  • Clean and Build the C code. I have faced the following issue.
    • Issues Faced:
      • I am using Windows 7 64-bit and installed Jdk 64-bit. But initially I have installed MinGW 32 bit and it is generating only 32 bit DLL which is not suitable to run the Java application in NetBeans.
    • Resolution:
      • Downloaded MinGW 64 bit and configured in the NetBeans C/C++ Options
  • Copy the .dll file path
  • In Java project, open the main class and add the following content
package javaapp1.JavaApp1;

public class JavaApp1
{
static
{
  System.load("dll file path");
}
public static void main(String [] args)
{
  new JavaApp1.nativePrint();
}

private native void nativePrint();
}
  • Clean and Build the project

Netbeans Plugin Install, Update, Problem, Troubleshoot

Dear all,

I was facing an issue while updating my netbeans. It was showing the following screen

I tried to  resolve this problem by checking the proxy configuration, firewall configuration, refreshing the content. None of them solved my problem.
Note: You please try all those settings, it may work for you. If none the above configuration solves your problem then follow the below solutions.

I have found 2 solutions to resolve/troubleshoot this problem.

a) Manual Update
  1. Copy the path of the networking problem link
  2. Download the .nbm file
  3. In Netbeans, Click on Tools (Menu) -> Select "Plugins" option
  4. Select the tab "Downloaded" -> Click "Add Plugins"
  5. Choose the appropriate .nbm file from the downloaded directory
  6. Click "Open" to view in the "Downloaded" tab
  7. Check the plugin and Click on "Install" button
  8. Now the Netbeans plugin will be updated and it will auto download the dependencies
Note: Above Screens are of Netbeans IDE 7.0.1. For your netbeans IDE the options may be different menus but the procedure is same.
  • Pros: Easy to install the specified/chosen plugin and update
  • Cons:
    • Issue: While updating, if it was not able to get the dependency, then it will show the same "Networking Problem"
    • Resolution: Follow the same procedure from step 1

b) Automatic Update:

  1. In Netbeans, Click on Tools (Menu) -> Select "Plugins" option
  2. Select the tab "Settings"
  3.
  4. Click "Add" button to add a plugin update center
  5.
  6. Enter the name and path of the plugin update center and Click on "OK"
  7. It will auto-refresh the plugins available
Install Plugin:
You can download many netbeans plugins from "Available Plugins" tab of "Plugins" window.
Install your own choice of plugins and enjoy application development with Netbeans.

Adjust the audio/video delay(Sync) in VLC Player

Hi all,
When I was watching the movie, I got fed up with the delay between audio and video. There is not synchronization between the voice and the scene, which is going on. So, I just got the some information to share.

In VLC Player,

Select Tools-->Effects and Filters-->Select Synchronization Tab

Keyboard Shortcuts:
Use "k" to audio delay up and "j" to audio delay down.
Use "h" to sub-title delay up and "g" to sub-title delay down.

Try these shortcuts and watch the movie happily without problem.

Thinkpad L412, L512 laptop review

Hi everyone,

If you are planning to buy Lenovo Thinkpad L412,L512.
Please comment, if someone experienced any problem with Thinkpad L412,L512.

As per my surfing, it doesn't have cons.
Only cons, they are talking about keyboard sound. That is standard in Thinkpad laptops.
Don't bother about anything. Whoever planning to buy, they can happily buy.

Thanks in advance

Personal Experience:
My laptop screen was gone after 4 months of time, they have replaced it.
Laptop is not responding after working 2 to 3 hours continuous. We have to forcefully shutdown and restart again. I think, some hardware issue.
