Microsoft Azure SQL Server Read Only User Creation Deletion

Hi folks,

Today I will explain, how you can easily manage the readonly (view) users in Azure Microsoft SQL Server

Procedure

In Azure SQL Server

CREATE LOGIN [testuser] WITH PASSWORD = 'random_p@$$w0rd';

For master and each DB

Note: You must create the user in master db before creating in other databases

CREATE USER [testuser] FOR LOGIN [testuser]   
    WITH DEFAULT_SCHEMA = [dbo];  
GO

Grant Connect permission

GRANT CONNECT TO [testuser]
GO

Give datareader role to read (view) only

ALTER ROLE db_datareader ADD MEMBER [testuser]
GO

Drop user in DB

DROP USER [testuser]

GO

Drop user in Azure SQL

DROP LOGIN [testuser];
GO

Connect to public hosted Ubuntu server MySQL Docker Image from local MySQL Workbench

Hi folks,

Today I am going to explain the procedure to test the public cloud hosted MySQL docker in Ubuntu Server to your local MySQL WorkBench.

We configured a Ubuntu Server on public cloud and installed docker.
Ping the public IP address to make sure, it is reachable to your pc/laptop.

Configure System

Install MySQL Docker Image

# docker pull mysql/mysql-server:latest

Check the images

#docker images

You should be able to view the downloaded mysql server image

Start the MySQL Server

# docker run --name=mysql1 -p 33061:3306 -d mysql/mysql-server
-d : Run in daemon mode
-p host_port:container_port
--name: container name

The mapped public ubuntu server port is 33061, which is mapped to the mysql server port 3306.

Check the containers

# docker ps

You should be able to view your mysql docker containers with container id and ports information

Get the MySQL root user password

MySQL generates a one-time password for docker container and writes to the log.

• To view the log, execute the following command

# docker logs mysql1

• To get the generate one-time password, filter the log with keyworkd "GENERATED"

# docker logs mysql1 2>&1 | grep GENERATED

• You should be able to get the line like below

GENERATED ROOT PASSWORD: Axegh3kAJyDLaRuBemecis&EShOs

• Copy the one-time password. In the next step, we will use this to login.

Reset MySQL root user password

• Connect to MySQL server

# docker exec -it mysql1 -uroot -p

• Paste the generated root password
• Change the password

mysql> ALTER USER 'root'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'yourpwd';
mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

• Though you have the root user credentials, you won't be able to connect.

Root cause: root user belongs to localhost, not for the public host usage
Solution: create another user with all privileges

mysql> CREATE USER 'username'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'youpwd';
mysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES on *.* TO USER 'username'@'%' WITH GRANT OPTION;
mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

• Exit the mysql

mysql> exit;

• Restart the docker

# docker restart mysql1

Connect from MySQL Workbench

1. Open MySQL Workbench
2. Click on add new connection icon
3. Enter the "Connection name"
4. Enter host name "public IP address" or "URL"
5. Enter username as "dev" (Above created user)
6. Click on Password "Store in vault" button and enter the "dev" user password
7. Click on "Test Connection" button
8. You should be able to view the "Successfully made the SQL Connection" pop-up

Add custom user/system attributes in Active Directory

Hi folks,

Today I'll explain the procedure to add and verify the custom user attributes in Active Directory.

Mount the Directory Schema

1. Open Command Prompt in Administrator mode
• Start -> cmd -> Right click and select "Run as Administrator"
2. Mount the directory schema command
• cmd> regsvr32 schmmgmt.dll
3. You will be notified with command success pop-up
• Click on Ok

Creating Custom Attribute

• Open mmc (Management Console)
• Click on "File" menu and select "Add/Remove Snap in.."
• From "Available snap-ins" section, click "Active Directory Schema"
• Click on "Add"

• "Active Directory Schema" should be added to "Selected snap-ins" section and click "Ok"
• You will be viewing the "Active Directory Schema" in the console
• Expand and select "Attributes"
• Right click and choose "New" and select "Attribute" as shown below

• A warning pop-up shows, click Continue

• Create New Attribute pop-up opens up
• Enter the custom attribute details
• Enter the Object ID as per Reference 1

• Select the Syntax from the list

• Check Multi-Valued option based on your requirement
• Click Ok

Adding to User Class

• Newly created custom attribute has to be mapped to any one of the class (Computer, user etc)
• To add it to user
• (Classes -> User -> Properties -> "Add")
• Select the custom attribute

Restarting ADDS (Active Directory Domain Service)

• Open Services
• Start -> Run -> services.msc
• Navigate to Active Directory Domain Service
• Restart the service

Verification

• Open "Active Directory Users and Computers"
• Go to "Users"
• Click on any user and view properties
• Click on "Attribute Editor" tab
• Navigate to your custom tab

Oracle Create User with custom tablespace and datafile

Hi all,

Through I have explained the procedure to delete/drop the user with tablespace and datafiles. I though of giving information about creating a user with custom tablespace and datafile.

Pre-requisites

1. Oracle database
2. Login as sys as sysdba

Procedure

Create tablespace

Syntax: CREATE TABLESPACE DATAFILE SIZE ;
Example: CREATE TABLESPACE sample_tablespace DATAFILE 'C:\\samplets.dbf' SIZE 100M;
Example: CREATE TABLESPACE sample_tablespace DATAFILE '\usr\local\datafiles\samplets.dbf' SIZE 100M;

User creation

Alter session
ALTER SESSION SET "_ORACLE_SCRIPT"=true;

Create User
Syntax: CREATE USER IDENTIFIED BY DEFAULT TABLESPACE ;
Example: CREATE USER sampleuser IDENTIFIED BY samplepwd DEFAULT TABLESPACE sample_tablespace;

Grant privilieges
Syntax: GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES to ;
Example: GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES to sampleuser;

Commit the commands
commit;

Now, you should be able to create the tablespace and made that as default tablespace for the newly created user.

Oracle Drop/Delete User with All tables and files

Hi All,

Today I am going to explain the procedure to delete/drop a user in Oracle database along with tables and mapped files for that user tablespace.

Pre-requisites

Oracle database with the following

1. User
2. Tablespace of the user
3. Datafile of the tablespace

Procedure

Drop the user

Syntax: DROP USER CASCADE;
Example: DROP USER sampleuser CASCADE;

Make the tablespace offline

Syntax: ALTER TABLESPACE OFFLINE;
Example: ALTER TABLESPACE sampletablespace OFFLINE;

Drop the tablespace with mapped datafile[s]

Syntax: DROP TABLESPACE INCLUDING CONTENTS AND DATAFILES
Example: DROP TABLESPACE sampletablespace INCLUDING CONTENTS AND DATAFILES

With the above 3 commands, you can make sure that, user and user related data has been completed removed from database.

Unable to open WebEx issue on Windows 10 solution

Hi all,
I was facing an issue with opening WebEx on my Windows 10. I found the solutions from different sources and wants to share with you.

Procedure

1. Open the WebEx link in IE
2. Press F12 (Development Tools) on keyboard or from settings icon from top right corner IE
3. Navigate to “Emulation” tab
4. Select “Document Mode” as 9
5. Select “User agent string” as 9
6. Browser automatically refreshes
7. Now, you try to join/start the meeting
8. It should open the WebEx application

Unable to Share folders in Ubuntu problem got resolved (Samba)

Hi friends,

I was not able to share my folders within network sometime back.

After searching and modifying configuration file my problem got resolved.

Problem: 

Unable to share Ubuntu folders

Message:  

net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: cannot share path /opt/foldingathome as we are restricted to only sharing directories we own.
Ask the administrator to add the line "usershare owner only = False"
to the [global] section of the smb.conf to allow this.

Resolution:

1. Type the following in console
• $ sudo vi /etc/samba/smb.conf
2. Go to [global] section
3. Add the following line
• usershare owner only = False
4. Save and exit from vi
5. Restart Samba service
• sudo service samba restart

Now, you can happily share your folders over network

Customize Command Prompt in Windows 7 with your own Icon, Starting Directory and more settings ...

Hi all,

Are you getting bored with the same command prompt with black colored background and other settings?

You can customize your own command prompt and you can start from the preferred location (Directory) path, choose your own icon and lot more.

Go ahead by following the below steps ..


Creating the shortcut icon on Destop

1. Right click on the desktop, select "New" -> "shortcut"
2. Browse for the command prompt executable file "cmd.exe"
3. If you have installed your Operating System in C drive then the path might be similar to this
4. C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe
5. Click on "Next"
6. Type the name for this shortcut, something like "MyCmdPrompt"
7. Click on "Finish"
8. Now you can see your command prompt named of your own choice
9. Now, you can change some properties of your command prompt

Changing the properties of the custom command prompt

• Right click on the newly created shortcut from the Desktop

• Select "Shortcut" tab and change the following settings

1. Change the starting directory: Specify your own choice of directory path in the "Start in" box.
2. Default Start in path: C:\Windows\System32
3. Change the icon of your own choice: Click on "Change Icon" and Click on "Browse" button and Select the "C:\Windows\System32\imageres.dll" to list all the windows installed icons.
4. Select an icon of your own choice and Click on "Ok"
5. Run as Administrator by default: Click "Advanced" button, Select "Run as administrator" and Click "Ok"

• Select "Options" tab and change the following settings

1. Check "Quick Edit mode" to copy and paste easily

• Select "Font" tab and change the following settings

1. select your desired "Font" and "Size" settings

• Select "Layout" tab and change the following settings

1. select your desired "Window Size"
2. Note: To see a bigger screen, increase the "Width and Height" attributes of the "Window Size"
3. You can preview, your settings in the left side preview

• Select "Colors" tab, You might be bored by seeing the same black and white combination.

1. Choose your desired colors for Background, Foreground colors for both the "Screen" and "Pop-Up screen"

• Click on "Apply" and then "Ok" to see your own command prompt.

Firefox 7 Preferences Files has been changed

Hi everyone,

The developers who want to customise their latest Firefox 7, there is no pref.js (preferences file, which we used to configure the firefox) and user.js (user preferences file).

We can use one and only one preferences file named syspref.js to configure the default firefox.

In Ubuntu it is located under /usr/lib/firefox-7.0.x/defaults/pref/syspref.js

Here we can configure our default homepage and proxies etc.

We can do the same by typing about:config in the browser address bar.

Update your browser and set up according to your convenience.

I tried these Google labs features and its very useful for every e-mail user. Hope you will also like it.

There are features which will

1. Insert images in mail
2. Cancel the mail within 30 seconds, if you forgot attachment, signature, address, etc.
3. Nested folders
4. Choosing the correct name suggestion.
5. Displaying the unread messages count in the title of the page.

• To see the Google labs, click on Settings, select Labs tab.
• Select the Enable option button for the concerned lab feature.
• Click on Save Changes at top or bottom of the page, to use these features.

Google Labs Features: 

1) Inserting Images:
    This feature provides you to select the pictures from the harddisk or from URL and display in the mail instead of attachment. Lot of my friends asked how to display an image in the mail. By using this feature you can do that.
2) Nested Labels
    Instead of having long list of labels for every simple things, you can group them and make nested labels.
3) Title Tweaks
    It will display the current label with unread message count. If you get any new mail, just by seeing the title in the taskbar, you can identify that you got an e-mail.

4) Got the Wrong Bob?
    This feature will you recommend the user with the similar name. When you are selecting some name, it will list the similar names to choose the correct one. 

5) Undo Send
    Sometimes we will be thinking something and click on send button. After just clicking, we will be thinking like, I shouldn't have click on send button. By using "Undo Send" feature, within 30 seconds we can cancel the sending mail. After finishing everything in the mail, you can send again.
Example: We want to send resume to someone, We will be concentrating on writing some good content and once we are happy with content, we will just press send button without attaching the resume. Just after clicking on send we will identify that, we forgot the attachment. At that point, we can cancel the sending mail and attach the resume and send. I think it happened with lot of you people. It happened with me too.
